8/16/11 - Dear School of Dance & Music Students and Families,
We would like to inform you about our wonderful new third location in Manhattan Beach. We wanted to answer the question that has been popping in your head every time you pass the corner of Marine and Sepulveda... “Will it be ready in time?”

Well, yes and no. We WILL be holding dance classes and music lessons starting on Tuesday Sept. 6th. We will be using a couple of different vacant facilities a few doors down in the same parking lot, which includes a previous bicycle shop (with a wood floor) for dance and floor level office rooms for music lessons. We will have additional staff on site to help assist and direct students and parents during class times. On September 27th (3 weeks later) we will be able to move into our brand new facility.

We thank you for understanding and for being part of our school.
What an exciting year we have in store for everyone!

11/13/10 - Music Performance Group Gig at FOLA Fundraiser
Our new music performance group is a gathering of musicians who perform at local venues or events outside of our biannual music recitals. The group was invited to perform at the “Stars of the Arts FOLA Fundraiser” mixer at the Manhattan Beach Country Club on November 13th. FOLA is the Foundation of Local Arts and held this successful event to help raise funds for local schools' arts and education. Performers at this event were Kyler Ramsey, Alessandra Waller, Madison Deaver, Anna Thompson, Emily Calcagnini, Eden McCoy,
Taylor King & Morgan King.

 

9/7/10 - Special Guest Master Classes This year we are excited to have special industry guest teachers from Phantom of the Opera Cast and winner of “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 4, Joshua Allen to help educate and inspire. If you are not in the dance company or on competition team and would like more info on how to participate in our “special guest master teacher” classes, please leave a note for Michelle at the front desk.

9/1/10 - NEW Manhattan Beach Location Opening! Thirteen years ago, we started by offering dance classes at the Manhattan Beach Country Club. Now, coming this Spring, we are excited to announce that we are back in Manhattan Beach with our third location! This location may be convenient to many (on the corner of Sepulveda Blvd. & Marine Ave. in the old ‘Flower Shop’) and will help us expand our class offerings and programs. Stay Tuned!

1/21/10 - Dance and Music School to Award $10,000 in Scholarships

2010 marks the 10th year since the School of Dance & Music’s opening in the South Bay. School directors Dan & Liliana Galitzen are very excited about this milestone and are awarding a total of $10,000 in dance and music lesson scholarships to say a big “thank you” and to continue their part in encouraging and supporting the arts in the community.

The scholarships will be awarded based on an essay contest that is open to the public and has age categories ranging from 3 years old to adults. All one needs to apply for a scholarship is to have a love of dance or music and to be able to express that appreciation for learning the arts in a short essay.

The school’s motto is to “Give students of all ages the skills to enjoy dance and music for a lifetime”. School director Galitzen thought this essay contest would be a great way to further our mission.” Galitzen also states, “Whether a student studies dance or music with us for joy or as a stepping stone to a profession in the arts, we would ultimately love our students to apply what they learn in the dance studio or music room to success in their studies, their jobs, their relationships, and their lives.”

The school hopes the essay contest brings further awareness to the arts in our community and the lifelong benefits it provides.

The deadline for the scholarship essay submission is February 28th, 2010.
